I recently read through Boswell's London journal and have also skimmed through a biography about him. Now I am just curious to know if he has any direct living descendants? It seems to me that most of his children died either young or childless.
And thank you to the webmaster for compiling the biographies of so many of the people he writes about in his journal. It has given me a whole new understanding of the context and meaning of many of his entries.

First of all, thank you for your praise of the site. I am glad you find it useful, which is really the whole point for me to make it.

Secondly, to answer your question, Boswell actually has numerous descendants. It is true that some of his children died young and/or without issue. However, his son Alexander and daughter Elizabeth did have children, and numerous people alive today descend from them particularly through his granddaughter Theresa Boswell.

You can see a chart of James Boswell's descendants here , which should you give an idea of the number of descendants and of the individual family lines.

I hope this answers your question.

I believe I am a direct descendent of James boswell. My great grandfather was valco Oliver boswell. In our line the boswell name ended with him as far as I know.
